CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Cheyenne resident recently won second place in an annual art contest.
The Wyoming Arts Council and Wyoming State Parks recently concluded the Plein Air in the Parks event held on Sept. 11–15 at Hot Springs State Park and Legend Rock Historical Site. This annual art competition pairs talented artists with beautiful locations, and offers cash prizes to top participants.
The award winners are:
- First Place ($1,000): “Legend Rock Elk” – Brenda Trippel (Worland)
- Second Place ($500): “Beautiful Wyoming – Thermopolis” – Georgia Roswell (Cheyenne)
- Third Place ($250): “The Water’s Edge” – Autumn Hnilicka (Thermopolis)
- People’s Choice Award ($250): “A River Runs Through It” – Cindy Clancy (Thermopolis)
Judges for the event this time were Rene’ Huge, Director of the Cody Country Art League, and Barbara Anne Greene, State Parks and Cultural Resources Commissioner for District 5.
“Being in such an accessible state park has really changed our outlook on this program, especially since this was a new location for Plein Air in the Parks,” said Ismael Dominguez, programs apecialist at the Wyoming Arts Council. “Artists came from all over the northern Wyoming region, which brought the local Thermopolis community out to see the art being made across the Park; many of them mentioned how the artists changed their perspectives on their own town for the better.”
Plein Air in the Parks is a collaborative weekend event presented this year by Wyoming State Parks, the Wyoming Arts Council, the Sagebrush Artisans and Hot Springs State Park.
