CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Kiwanis Club of Cheyenne is preparing to show off the music and dance talent of Laramie County youth at its 70th annual Stars of Tomorrow event. The show is set for 2 p.m. April 28 at Cheyenne Central High School.

Lorrell Walter, event co-chair, said in a news release Tuesday that this year’s show will feature 26 acts, with a total of 36 participants competing in three categories: high school, junior high and elementary school.

“This year, our youngest contestant is in kindergarten and our oldest is a senior in high school,” Walter said. “It’s rare for us to get the real little ones, because getting up on that stage takes courage and talent, which can be challenging for the younger children.”

Acts scheduled for this year’s show include performances in piano, violin, fiddle, singing and lyrical, jazz and hip-hop dance, Walter said.

Judges, including one who has appeared on Broadway, will select the top three winners in each category, as well as one overall best in show. Walter said first-place winners will receive a cash award that will go to their school’s performing arts department.

“In many cases, administrators will allow the students to help influence how the funds are used,” Walter said.

The winner of best in show brings an additional cash prize to the contestant’s school.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students of all grades. Children under 2 are free. Doors for the event open at 1:30 p.m.
