Rawlins police rescue dozens of neglected dogs, puppies and cats found in U-Haul

A U-Haul vehicle packed with dogs, puppies and cats was discovered by Rawlins Police Officers over the weekend.

According to the department’s post on social media, the discovery was made on Feb. 15., when officers responded to a call to investigate the U-Haul, which had been parked at a motel for two days.

Officers found 28 dogs and puppies and three cats inside the unit, along with “several deceased dogs” packed inside in “extremely unsanitary conditions and with obvious signs of neglect,” according to the post.

The animals were transported to the Rochelle Animal Shelter to be evaluated and rehabilitated as the investigation continues.

The release says the case is under investigation and more information will be released when available.
