The search for an 11-year-old boy who went missing in a Colorado Springs is entering its third week.
According to TV station KOAA, crews from numerous counties searching a 35-acre area are still hoping to find Gannon Stauch alive.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation, says they have received 540 tips through social media and their hotline.
The office Tweeted yesterday that 82 people were assisting in the search, which is concentrating on northern El Paso County and southern Douglas County,
Gannon was reportedly last seen by his stepmother on Jan. 27, in a Colorado Springs subdivision called Lorson Ranch. She reportedly told police he left their home to visit a friend’s house down the street.
KOAA-TV says authorities were first treating the case as a runaway until the status was changed to Missing and Endangered based on the length of time and his needed medications.
Authorities are asking people to resist spreading rumors on social media that “have run rampant,” since false information makes solving the case more difficult.
