Cheyenne Frontier Days on cancellation: Governor will make announcement today

Cheyenne Frontier Days Officials declined to confirm or deny the veracity of a link sent to Oil City and Cap City News by readers (Submitted)

UPDATE: Cheyenne’s Mayor tells reporters at the Associated Press that Cheyenne Frontier Days is cancelled.

CASPER, Wyo. — Persons at the corporate office for Cheyenne Frontier Days would not confirm or deny the veracity of a link that seems to indicate that the Daddy of ‘Em All signature event is cancelled in the wake of COVID-19.

Screenshots of a search page with a link titled “Event Cancellation FAQS- Cheyenne Frontier Days” shows a small excerpted text that the rodeo and concert celebration has been cancelled. The excerpt indicates the coronavirus COVID-19 global pandemic as the reason for the cancellation.

Reporters with Cap City News in Cheyenne were able to find the link on a search engine, but the link leads to a dead page. Reporters then called the Cheyenne Frontier Days Office and asked for a confirmation or denial on the veracity of the screenshot. The person speaking with the reporter declined to confirm or deny, and responded only that the Governor would be making a statement on the subject, Wednesday May 27, 2020.

Ticket sales are not currently possible through the Cheyenne Frontier Days webpage.

Governor Mark Gordon does have breifing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. During the briefing, Gordon will “provide an update on the COVID-19 pandemic and discuss the status of large events in Wyoming this summer,” according to the governor’s office.

The conference will be streamed live on Wyoming PBS television as well as the Wyoming PBS’ Facebook page and Wyoming PBS YouTube channel.

The official at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Office ended the phone call without identifying themselves or answering further questions.

This is a developing story, and we will have more as it becomes available.
