CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Lockdowns have been lifted at two Cheyenne schools as of early Wednesday afternoon. No injuries are reported.
Police officers responded to a reported threat at East High School late Wednesday morning. The school, as well as Carey Junior High, was placed under lockdown as officers worked to secure the area.
East High received a “swatting” call at 11:55 a.m., according to Alex Farkas, Cheyenne police public information officer. The call alleged that a student had a gun in one of the high school’s bathrooms. These fabricated phone calls have been occurring at other schools across Wyoming, Farkas said.
Carey Junior High’s secure protocol was lifted at 12:43 p.m., according to a report from the education platform Remind. East High hold status was lifted at 1:20 p.m., according to Mary Quast, community relations director with LCSD1.
Quast said normal school day activities have now resumed. However, parents and guardians are reportedly at the school picking up their students, a parent of an East High student told Cap City News.
