CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Northbound and southbound lanes on Converse Avenue near Mason Way were closed Tuesday morning due to a gas leak, causing an evacuation of a nearby building. Cheyenne police were on the scene directing traffic, while Black Hills Energy worked to contain the leak. Roads reopened in the early afternoon.

“We ask that people avoid the area for safety,” Battalion Chief Kipp Sanders of Cheyenne Fire and Rescue stated. Sanders emphasized the importance of steering clear until officials declare the situation safe.

Black Hills Energy arrived on scene shortly after the leak was reported. The fire department is standing by to assist if containment requires further action.
