CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The City of Cheyenne is entering into an agreement with the Downtown Development Authority to repair sidewalks deemed trip hazards.

At its regular Monday meeting, city councilmembers passed a memorandum of understanding that will allow the DDA to pay the city up to $100,000 for the sidewalk construction initiative, according to DDA administrator Kylie Dorr. Dorr said the purpose of the initiative is to assist property owners, who typically would be fully responsible for taking care of the repairs. The DDA’s sidewalk program will allow the downtown board split the repair costs with property owners.

“The DDA is prioritizing the repair of hazardous sidewalks to make downtown more walkable and ADA accessible, ensuring a safer and more welcoming environment for all,” Dorr told Cap City News via email.

As part of the initiative, the City of Cheyenne will be responsible for fixing any curb and gutter associated with sidewalk construction. The city will be responsible for recruiting contractors to complete sidewalk renovations.

The MOU comes after the City of Cheyenne supported a resolution in March for a downtown sidewalk repair project. The DDA has since created a subcommittee to oversee the sidewalk repair initiative. The DDA will notify relevant property owners of the repairments, per the MOU. The development authority will collect payments from property owners whose abutting sidewalks require repair. In addition, the DDA will coordinate with the city’s contractor on a repair timeline.

A copy of the MOU can be viewed below.
