CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Crews recently wrapped up work on the first project in the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority’s Sidewalk Improvement Program that launched this past fall. The sidewalk and adjacent concrete in front of Mort’s Bagels on Carey Avenue was repaired.

The Sidewalk Improvement Program aims to accelerate repairs and improve safety for downtown patrons. The program allows property owners to split the cost of sidewalk repairs with the DDA at 50% each. Typically, property owners would be responsible for the entire cost of sidewalk repairs.

Repairs are coordinated and overseen by the City Engineer’s Office. The first phase of the program focuses on high-priority areas where sidewalks have been in disrepair. The DDA and City Engineer’s Office will work closely with business and property owners to coordinate repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations. As the program progresses, more sidewalks in the downtown area will be assessed and included in future repair projects.

“This project represents an important investment in Downtown,” city Councilmember Pete Laybourn said. “The partnership between the city, DDA and property owners will eliminate trip hazards and improve the visitor experience.”

When available, the DDA encourages downtown property owners to participate in the program and take advantage of the cost-sharing opportunity to enhance the safety and appearance of their properties. Not all properties are eligible. In those cases, the DDA may be able to offer other assistance.
