CASPER, Wyo. — National Hunting and Fishing Day is Saturday, Sept. 28.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be celebrating with various activities leading up to and during the University of Wyoming Cowboys’ 6 pm match against the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Runnin’ Rebels.
“Celebrated annually on the fourth Saturday of September since 1972, National Hunting and Fishing Day has been recognized in all 50 states to teach about conservation and celebrate the outdoors,” Game and Fish says.
The public can attend the pregame activities which begin at 3 pm at the Pepsi Pregame Zone in UW’s Indoor Practice Facility next to War Memorial Stadium.
“’Cowboys fans, hunters and anglers all have at least one thing in common — they love Wyoming,’ said Kathryn Boswell, Game and Fish hunter and angler participation coordinator. ‘Our #fieldgoals event combines those passions, and it’s a lot of fun.’”
People who attend will have the chance “to learn how to use bear spray, climb aboard to explore a fish stocking truck, practice their casting skills, discover new places to hunt and fish in Wyoming and more.”
Game and Fish biologists and game wardens will be available to discuss things like chronic wasting disease. Other topics include the department’s “tooth aging program” and how to protect Wyoming waters from invasive species.
“’Bring your questions; we’ll have folks there who can answer anything from hunting access puzzlers to identifying that mysterious fish you caught this summer,’ Boswell said.”
People can use the hashtag #fieldgoals on outdoor photos posted to Facebook and Instagram. These photos will be broadcast on the megatron during the Cowboys’ game.
“Last year, 376 people submitted photos of enjoying the outdoors with friends and family,” Game and Fish says.
