CASPER, Wyo. — A 52 year old Texas man was found dead after he got lost following a crash on Highway 70.
Gerry Slusher was found deceased at about 10:30 am on Nov. 26.
The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office say they were notified of the crash at about 3:10 pm Monday, Nov. 25 by the Colorado State Patrol.
Slusher’s vehicle had caught fire during the crash.
“Carbon County Lieutenant Brian Lally spoke with the reporting party,” the CCSO said on Monday, Dec. 2. “Slusher stated that he had walked away from his vehicle that had caught on fire and became lost.”
“A command post was set up on County Road 501 near Savery, and the Baggs Search and Rescue members arrived to assist.”
Slusher had provided GPS coordinates to Lt. Lally.
“Deputy John Moore drove over Highway 70 from the Encampment side to assist Lt. Lally,” CCSO adds. “The Air Force and Classic Air Medical were contacted to see if they could assist with the search but were unable to fly due to inclement weather.”
“On November 26, 2019 search efforts continued and Mr. Slusher’s deceased body was located at approximately 10:30 A.M,” the release states. “Mr. Slusher was located in a deep ravine, approximately a mile and a half away from his vehicle, which was left near the intersection of County Road 503 and County Road 752.”
The cause of death was initially ruled as exposure to element, according Carbon County Coroner Paul Zamora’s preliminary investigation.
“The toxicology report is still pending,” CCSO said.
