Former Wyoming Secretary of State Edward Murray was identified as being cited for Driving Under the Influence, after law enforcement responded to a crash on private property, Sunday.
According to a citation released by the Laramie County Circuit Court, Edward Murray was cited for Driving Under The Influence. The citation notes that Murray is accused of being incapable of safely driving.
Driving Under the Influence, for the first charge in a ten year span, is described as a misdemeanor. Persons found guilty of a 1st DUI face a possible sentence of up to 6 months in jail, a fine of up to $750, or both.
The citation says that on Sunday December 13, 2019; Murray was involved in what is described as an “accident” on private property. Murray is described in the citation as having a strong odor of alcohol hon his person, slurred speech, and poor balance.
The citation went on to say that the “accident occurred at the edge of his property,” identifying property belonging to Murray, on the 8000 block of Wildflower Drive, in Laramie County.
Murray was the 21st Secretary of State for Wyoming, from 2015-2018.
Murray announced his resignation from the office in February of 2018, after allegations of sexual misconduct were leveled at Murray by two different women. Murray said, in a 2018 statement he was “unable to focus entirely on serving the good people of Wyoming while simultaneously needing to process all the fallout from these allegations.”
Murray was accused by one woman of sexually attacking her in 1982 and by another woman who claimed Murray forcibly kissed her in front of his house after a New Year’s Eve party in 1988. Murray denied the first instant and said he didn’t recall the second.
All of those cited are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
