CHEYENNE, Wyo. – At the end of the January 13th’s Cheyenne City Council meeting, Ward I councilmember, Pete Laybourn challenged the rest of the group to think about what their priorities for 2020 were.
“With this being the first meeting of the new year. And with this being a particularly interesting year – an election year – I’m wondering what our priorities are, as a council?” Laybourn wondered.
“I know what my priorities are. I think I have some idea of what the priorities of Ward I are. But as a group, do we have a list of accomplishments that we want to occur this year?” he asked the council.
Laybourn went on to say that at the current time he was not clear on what The Council’s priorities are. He said that the past year was not as successful as it could have been because of division, poor communication and what he called a “lack of understanding.”
The councilman said that he was recently in Casper and noted that their City Council had posted their goals on their wall for all of the things that they wanted to achieve for the upcoming year.
“We don’t have anything like that,” Laybourn lamented.
Laybourn then brought up that he believed that their work sessions were too brief and too sporadic for the council to dig into the important issues facing the Cheyenne community.
“I know that I have priorities are and I wonder what the priorities of the other members are. I would be glad to learn,” Laybourne said near the end of his remarks.
Ward III Councilman Ken Esquibel said “Going forward, I am willing to work with all of the members of the council to make the city a better place, and the mayor as well.”
Mayor Marian Orr suggested that perhaps a retreat with the City Councilmembers would be in order to help fulfill the specific goals for each their respective wards.
The next Cheyenne City Council meeting is set for January 27th at 6:00 p.m.
