UPDATE: 30% containment on Richard Mountain Fire; oil and gas resources threatened

CASPER, Wyo. – The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming said in a Thursday evening update that the Richard Mountain Fire is about 30% contained. The fire is reported at 7,046 acres.

The fire is burning in Utah and Wyoming about 50 miles south of Rock Springs. Wyoming. The cause remains under investigation.

A Type 3 Incident Command Team is leading response to the fire. The BLM describes fire behavior as “minimal, creeping” and “backing” and that “single tree torching” is occurring. Perimeter growth is described as minimal.

Oil and gas structures in Utah are threatened by the fire, according to the BLM. The fire is burning in a mixture of “pinyon pine, juniper, grass and brush in steep terrain.”

Resources responding include:

  • 17 engines
  • 2 watertender
  • 5 (20 person) crews
  • 1 dozer
  • 4 helicopters
  • 250 personnel total

Closures are as follows, according to the BLM:

  • Section B of the Green River in Utah is closed for recreational use from the Little Hole boat ramp to the Indian Crossing boat ramp
  • Browns Park Road is closed at Jesse Ewing Canyon and at Hwy 191
  • Clay Basin Road is closed at Hwy 191

The fire began at about 2 pm Aug. 3.

“Please report all wildfires immediately to the Casper Fire Dispatch Center (WY) at 1-800-295-9953, the Uintah Basin Interagency Dispatch Center (UT) at 1-435-789-7021 or local 911,” the update adds.
