CASPER, Wyo– 57 cars of a Union Pacific train carrying corn grain derailed in Albany county around 6:00 a.m. Saturday, August 22, according to Raquel Espinoza, a UP spokesperson.
57 of the 222 train cars derailed, Espinoza said, and freight is being rerouted while crews work to clear the track and conduct an investigation. No one was injured in the derailment, she said, with 2 people aboard.
Espinoza said safety was Union Pacific’s top priority. As the investigation is still ongoing, she did not offer a theory regarding the cause, but said more information would be made available and the cause was determined.
