CASPER, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming said on Thursday, that a “The World Needs More Cowboys” celebration is set to take place on Sept. 24 in Douglas.
The public is invited to attend the celebration and free appetizers and beverages will be served. The celebration is set to start at 5:30 pm at Nida Field near Douglas High School. The Douglas High School marching band will perform during the celebration.
“Students will learn more about the University of Wyoming; UW alumni will connect with their alma mater; and members of the public will find out more about UW’s presence in Converse County,” UW says of the event.
UW’s new President Ed Seidel will speak at the event, touching on UW’s “efforts to boost entrepreneurism and the state’s economy, among other topics.”
UW Women’s Basketball Head Coach Gerald Mattinson will also speak. UW students Hailey Moss and Zoe Short, both from Douglas “will discuss their experiences at the state’s university.”
“UW faculty members and admissions representatives will be on hand to answer questions and interact with attendees on topics including the Cowboy Commitment, UW’s new merit- and need-based financial aid offerings for Wyoming high school graduates,” UW says. “Free UW-branded giveaway items will be available, including T-shirts to the first 50 high school students.”
“Additionally, UW alumnus Tim Painter, director of bands at Douglas High School, will talk about how UW helped advance his career and prepare him for his role in the community — and what it means to him to be a UW Cowboy. Painter is one of 24 UW alumni being featured in advertising in Wyoming newspapers and other media under the banner of ‘The World Needs More Cowboys — and So Does Wyoming.’”
UW says that COVID-19 guidelines will be followed to help minimize the risk of transmission. If there is inclement weather, the celebration will be moved into the Douglas High School gymnasium.
UW says the event in Douglas will be the eighth in a series of planned “The World Needs More Cowboys” events.
“The series, interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, is resuming now that Gov. Mark Gordon has allowed outdoor public gatherings of up to 1,000 people and indoor gatherings of up to 250, with certain restrictions,” UW says.
