CASPER, Wyo. — The Mullen Fire has burned an estimated 118,788 acres and remains 0% contained, according to Thursday evening updates from Mullen Fire Information.
Over 950 personnel are working the fire, which has pushed into Colorado.Rocky Mountain Blue Team Planning Ops Trainee Deon Steinle said during the video update that the fire is about 30 miles away from the Cameron Peak Fire in northern Colorado.
While Steinle said this is “not terribly close in the grand scheme of things,” Mullen Peak and Cameron Peak Fire command teams have been in communication.
He said that the southwest perimeter of the fire saw a “big run” on Wednesday afternoon, which pushed the fire into Colorado. Steinle said that burn operations near CO Highway 127 and 125 were being conducted.
Steinle added that dozer line work continued on the northeast perimeter of the fire south of Albany. He added that burn operations continued on the northern perimeter, with the aim to tie into burn scar near Keystone.
On the southeast side of the fire, Steinle said that structure protection was continuing in the Foxborough Park area.
Steinle added that firefighting efforts also included a specific structure protection group who were working in areas around Rambler, Albany, Mountain Home and the Ginger Quill Ranch.
A “swing shift” team also begins late in the mornings and help bolster efforts where needed around the fire.
