CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Day of Giving Board event is back to the customary 2nd-Friday-in-May pattern, with the Youth Event the day before, both at the Kiwanis Community House in Lions Park.

Event organizers say that both events will be drive-thru, and volunteers will be following health guidelines, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing.

The Day of Giving Youth Event is on May 13, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The youth will be running the event, doing all the jobs adults will do the next day and following the same health guidelines.

According to the announcement, the youth will greet donors, then unload donations of food, personal care items, and craft items; they will bring the donations inside, sort them according to the wish lists of the 10 area agencies that will receive them, and box them up so they are ready for delivery the next morning. In other words, the kids in Cheyenne will be helping their age peers who struggle for such necessities as food, laundry detergent, body wash, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, and toothpaste!

The 16th Annual Day of Giving will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the next day, Friday, May 14, also at the Kiwanis Community House. This will be a time for area residents to load donations in the back seat or trunk of their cars, pull up curbside at the KCH, have the donation unloaded by a masked volunteer, and be on their way. The only donors who will need to park and go inside the KCH will be blood donors attending the on-site Vitalant blood drive held there from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers will box and load donations to be delivered that day to area agencies; the agencies will let the boxes sit over the weekend, then work on getting these much-needed items to clients in need.

Day of Giving is asking for donations of nonperishable food, personal care items, craft items, leftover prescription medications, medical equipment and medical supplies, and used eyeglasses, hearing aids and cell phones. Volunteers will also have information available about how to register as a prospective bone marrow or organ/eye tissue donor.

In addition, Day of Giving appreciates financial donations to its year-round effort of supporting agencies that help clients in great need by making purchases to meet those needs.

“As with each previous Day of Giving event, we will be focusing on making a difference for thousands of our neighbors in need!” event organizers stated.
