19 new COVID cases this week detected in Wyoming correctional facilities

CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Correction reported 19 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 among inmates and correctional staff in the last week as of Friday, October 8.

The new cases include 7 among correctional staff and 12 among Wyoming inmates.

The WDOC reported the new cases as having been identified at the following facilities:

  • Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) Torrington
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 3
      • Staff: 3
      • Inmates: 5
  • Wyoming Honor Farm (WHF) Riverton
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 3
      • Staff: 1
      • Inmates: 2
  • Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp (WHCC) Newcastle
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 0
      • Staff: 0
      • Inmates: 0
  • Wyoming Women’s Center (WWC) Lusk
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 4
      • Staff: 1
      • Inmates: 3
  • Wyoming State Penitentiary (WSP) Rawlins
    • Positive COVID-19 Cases: 4
      • Staff: 2
      • Inmates: 2

The WDOC says 3 inmate deaths have been attributed to COVID-19.

“Working with the Wyoming Department of Health, all positive inmate cases are medically monitored and managed by the Department and our health care provider (Corizon Health, Inc.) in accordance with CDC guidelines,” the WDOC says.

“The department continues to conduct rigorous surveillance testing at all sites as necessary and will provide additional information as it becomes available.”
