CHEYENNE, Wyo. — South High senior Diana Arenas-Rocha was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of April 11, according to a release from the district.
She was nominated because of her leadership abilities within her classes and her “dedication to displaying the HERD (honorable, enthusiastic, responsible and determined) values daily.”
“Diana always does her work with honor and integrity,” AP U.S. history teacher Dr. Reagan Kaufman said. “I love her sense of humor and determination to do well in class. She is a great leader.”
According to the release, Arenas-Rocha has not only taken honors and Advanced Placement courses, but also maintained a job the entire time.
Another great achievement is a public service announcement on the topic of sexual harassment that she created during a class.
LCSD #1 says that she is a first-generation United States citizen and learned English as her second language, Spanish being her first language.
After graduation, Arenas-Rocha plans to attend University of Wyoming and major in international studies, politics, or law, with the hope of one day working in government.
