LCSD 1 honors Maia Wiley as ‘Student of the Week’

Maia Wiley

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — An eighth-grade student at McCormick Junior High, Maia Wiley, was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of May 2, according to a release from the district.

She was nominated due to her dedication to academics, her strength being math, for which she is already taking high school–level honors courses. Additionally, this bright student participates in track and orchestra.

“Maia is an outstanding student,” language arts teacher Suzanne Szabo said. “She works hard to maintain top grades every quarter by going above and beyond in her assignments while balancing outside activities.”

According to the release, Wiley is “kind, responsible, and respectful.” Outside of school, she enjoys violin and participates in 4-H.

Her teachers describe her as “one of the hardest workers and nicest students.”

She is looking to be successful when she grows up, but is keeping her options open for the time being. “She has a very bright future before her,” committee members said. “We all know she is destined for amazing things.”

LCSD 1 says that they are proud to present Wiley with this honor.
