CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cap City News is deepening its commitment to covering local community news with the hiring of a second community reporter, Eve Hamilton.
Hamilton joined Cap City News in May. Among her beats are city government, education, environment and the outdoors, arts and culture, and breaking news.
She joins community reporter Briar Napier to round out the Cheyenne newsroom. Like Napier, she’ll serve as an ambassador to the community, being actively engaged with outreach and providing journalism of service.
“I’m happy to have Eve join our Cheyenne newsroom. As a local person herself, she brings a knowledge of what’s happening and what’s important to Cheyenne and Laramie County that will prove invaluable for full, in-depth community reporting,” Cap City News managing editor Klark Byrd said.
Hamilton is originally from Oxford, Pennsylvania, a town just outside Philadelphia. She remembers hearing about Wyoming as a child during a cross-country trip with her family. In 2014, she made the state her permanent home after a three-week backpacking trip in the Wind River Mountains before starting her freshman year at Wyoming Catholic College.
“It was during my time at WCC that I gained a love of the outdoors, and I continue to hike, camp and climb whenever I can,” she said. “I also gained an appreciation, a deeper appreciation, for the written word, and this led me to work on my writing skills so I may use it in the future.”
Hamilton graduated from WCC in 2018 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in liberal arts, and she moved to Cheyenne shortly after. In 2020, she began working in journalism for Townsquare Media and remained there until earlier this year.
“When I’m not working, I’m usually in the local cigar lounge or in the wilderness with my dog, Freyja. I am an avid reader and a fan of high fantasy or classic horror,” Hamilton said. “I also am a leather craftsman, making everything from bags to wallets to leather flowers. And I’m part of True Troupe and love to be acting when not busy with all my other hobbies.”
