A revised social media policy passed by the commissioners establishes guidelines for creating a “county authorized” site, which includes registering an account with the county’s Information Technology Department, having the account monitored by an IT administrator and getting it verified through its social media platforms if possible.
If an account doesn’t meet the criteria and uses content to represent itself as a member of the county, it is considered unauthorized. The policy states that employees who post on an unauthorized site are acting outside of their duties and may be held liable for the content.
