CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Two Laramie County School District 1 music educators were honored by the Wyoming Music Educators Association, the district announced today.
The recipients were recognized during the association’s annual conference, which took place in Sheridan from Jan. 17 to Jan. 19.
Wendy Dryden, a choir director at McCormick Junior High School, was selected as the Southeast District Music Educator of the Year. The award honors individuals who have served their students, schools and communities in an exemplary way.
Mary Marchand, who works in the district’s music offices, received the Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes outstanding service to music education in the state by persons or organizations that are not professional music educators, but who have a direct impact on music education and provide support services to the music education community.
The WMEA is the professional association for music teachers in Wyoming. Members of the association include K–12, higher education and private music instructors. Public, private and parochial teachers are represented in the active, collegiate and retired membership. WMEA provides professional development for music teachers, provides opportunities for all music students to explore and excel in the arts and serves as an advocate for music education in Wyoming schools.
