CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The second annual ForMak 5K fun run will take place on Saturday, June 3 at 7:30 a.m. at Lions Park.
The ForMak organization is named after McCormick Junior High student Makaili “Mak” Evans, 13, who was killed after being struck by a vehicle while walking on a crosswalk to school in November 2021. The organization, led by Evan’s mother, Janelle Jones, raises awareness citywide and statewide for improved safety in and around school zones.
People can sign up for the event here. All proceeds will go toward the Safe Route to School Program plan.
During last year’s fun run, which was held one day before what would’ve been Evans’s 14th birthday, hundreds of community members attended and wore ForMak T-shirts in a show of solidarity. With approximately 715 people registered for the run, event partner and Cheyenne running store Foot of the Rockies reported it as largest 5K event ever recorded in the state of Wyoming. Community members raised $146,000 for Wyoming’s Safe Routes to School program.
