CHEYENNE, Wyo. — In a move to enhance the safety of its K-9 unit, the Cheyenne Police Department announced an update. K-9 Dutch will soon be outfitted with a bullet and stab protective vest.
This generous donation comes from Vested Interest in K9s Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to protecting K-9 officers across the nation, according to an announcement by CPD.
A Tribute to a Fallen Hero
K-9 Dutch’s vest holds a special tribute, embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Hobbs, Des Moines, IA – EOW 12/12/23.” This poignant message serves as a reminder of the risks these heroic dogs face in the line of duty. The department expects to receive the vest within eight to 10 weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s Inc. was established in 2009. The organization provides U.S.-made, custom-fitted and NIJ-certified body armor, and has delivered over 5,379 vests to K-9s in all 50 states. K-9s as young as 20 months and even those with expired vests are eligible for this life-saving equipment.
There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K-9s throughout the United States, according to the announcement.
