CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming State Museum in Cheyenne is planning on hosting five different events from late June into July where the community is invited to learn about civics and American history as part of Civic Season, according to a Wyoming State Museum press release.

Alongside over 500 other institutions across the country participating in the fourth annual Civic Season, the museum will put on a series of activities that begins and ends with some of the nation’s most important holidays.

“Civic Season takes place between Juneteenth and July 4, uniting our oldest federal holiday with our newest, and goes beyond hot dogs and fireworks to invite meaningful reflection on our country’s past and our role in shaping its future. It is a non-partisan summer tradition for learning and action,” the release said.

In Cheyenne, Civic Season activities will begin June 16 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Westby End Brewery. According to the release, the public is invited to enjoy live music from Red Painted Black and Samir Knox, a speech from former Wyoming State Representative and current Policy Director Randall Luthi, as well as a debate hosted by Braver Angels, a nonprofit organization seeking political depolarization. Information booths ran by local organizations will also be present.

Following the kickoff, four more Civic Season events will be held in Cheyenne at the museum and county library.

June 18, 6:30–8 p.m.

Braver Angels will host a “community conversation” where “people of all walks of life come together to have a productive conversation about the topic of homelessness.”

June 20, 7 p.m.

Participants at the museum and library can play Jenga and discuss the state of democracy in the state during what the museum is calling “Democracy Under Construction.”

June 25, 6:30 p.m.

The museum will host a panel of six local activists who are seeking change in the community. Participants are welcome to engage with the panel and find their own place in the world of civic participation.

June 27, 7 p.m.

The museum’s Civic Season activities will end on July 4 at the Wyoming State Museum with “A Slice of History: The Wyoming State Flag and The Women Who Made It Fly.” The evening will also feature a talk by Casper historian Kylie McCormick, a trivia game with a cash prize, and free pizza provided by Pizza to the Polls, according to the release.

The release also said that all Wyoming State Museum Civic Season activities are sponsored by Wyoming Humanities.

For more information on the Wyoming State Museum and Civic Season activities, the release encourages interested community members to visit the museum’s public program page.
