CHEYENNE, Wyo. — During today’s Laramie County Commissioner meeting, a $50,000 grant was unanimously approved for the Laramie County Recreation Board to aid in the building of a brand new playground in Clear Creek Park. This will help further the Laramie County Recreation Board project to revive the park to increase its use by the public.
The request for the $50,000 grant was filed by Cheyenne Community Public Recreation District, for the purpose of funding a new playground on the north end of Clear Creek Park, located by the Interstate 80 and Interstate 25 interchange.
This request is a part of the recent additions to Clear Creek Park started in 2014 to revamp the dilapidated Laramie County Park, according to county documents. The county helped fund a bicycle playground in 2019, a previously added playground in 2017, a new restroom facility and large picnic shelter in 2016, and a project still going on since this spring, the basketball court and pickleball court which remains unpainted.
The total cost of the project is going to be $170,873.06 with the Laramie County Recreation Board planning to provide the additional $120,873.06 through the voter-approved 6th penny project. The grant requested is to help the county fully fund the project.
The Laramie County Recreation Board will work with Great Western Recreation, which will work with OMNIA Partners, to get a discount on recreation equipment for the proposed playground.
The construction of the new playground will be where an old, outdated playground stands. It will need removed. Built in the 1990s, the playground is showing signs of wear and tear. It’s also been subjected to graffiti.
The Cheyenne Community Public Recreation District has chosen several different playground options to build that fit the current budget proposed, and it also has selected a dozen different color schemes that would work for the new playground, county documents state.
