New organization raising back-to-school supplies, funds for families affected by foster care; how you can donate

The group aims to fill a gap in the community that sprung up after the Cheyenne Foster Closet closed.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — With the start of the school year only a few weeks out, families will soon be busy shopping for and hauling home fresh classroom supplies and clothes for their kids. However, some families are on a budget and can’t afford to drop a lot of money on brand-new back-to-school gear.

One local organization aims to address this need for students, particularly children in foster care. Threads of Hope, a Cheyenne-based organization that strives to assist families affected by foster care, is raising funds and supplies to ensure children have everything they need on the first day of class. The group was formed this past March, according to director Jessicalynn Burns. She aimed to fill a gap in the community that sprung up after the Cheyenne Foster Closet closed.

The organization is in immediate need of the following supplies:

  • Hair accessories
  • Children’s shampoo and conditioner
  • Hair products
  • Children’s brushes and combs
  • Bath bombs
  • Crayons
  • Children’s body wash
  • Face and body lotion
  • Acne treatment
  • Infant washcloths
  • Male and female deodorants
  • Shaving bags, razors, creams and lotion
  • Tampons
  • Baby oil
  • Children’s toothpaste
  • Pop-up hampers for laundry
  • Diapers sizes 3, 4 and 5
  • Pull-ups sizes 3, 4 and 5
  • Diaper cream
  • Baby powder
  • Diaper bags
  • Toddler backpacks
  • Training underwear size 3 for boys and girls
  • Baby wipes
  • Ziplock bags (gallon)
  • Crib for toddlers and twin-size bedding
  • Pillows
  • Throw blankets
  • Toys and games

Threads of Hope is located downtown at First Christian Church, 219 W. 27th St. Burns said she is available to meet with foster families any time or day of the week to hear their needs. She told Cap City News that first responders also help her connect with foster families in the area.
