CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Members of the Cheyenne Family YMCA only have a week left to use the facility pool before it closes for good.
The Cheyenne Y announced Friday that it is “indefinitely” closing its aquatics facility, which houses its pool, hot tub and sauna, according to a Friday email from the center’s president. The pool will close beginning Saturday, Aug. 24.
“As an organization that has served this community with swim lessons, recreational swimming and water fitness classes for decades, we are truly heartbroken,” Chris Coker, president of the YMCA of Northern Colorado & Southern Wyoming, stated in an email to members.
Coker states the pool will be closed because it has experienced expensive mechanical and facility-related issues. The Y cannot continue to bear the brunt of the facility’s repair costs, Coker wrote.
Anyone who is enrolled in a paid program involving the aquatics facility will receive a full refund.
The Cheyenne YMCA is currently considering long-term solutions to revitalize its pool, such as accepting monetary donations and pursuing community and government support, according to Coker.
