CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Just as Hunger Relief Month is about to wrap up, three local businesses have announced the launch of a food drive initiative.

Some Like It Hot, Diamond Elite Gymnastics and Cash WA Distributing Company Inc. are soon launching a new community initiative called the Hunger Hero Food Drive, which aims to combat hunger in southeast Wyoming. This initiative will have its own event where attendees can receive a free tan, pick up a hamburger lunch and get an opportunity to win prizes like a free birthday party and Diamond Elite Gymnastics apparel.

“Hunger is not just a statistic; it’s a reality for many in our community,” said Hyde Gillen, owner of Some Like It Hot Tanning Salon, in a news release. “By coming together for the Hunger Hero Food Drive, we can transform lives and ensure that everyone has access to the nourishment they need.”

Hunger Hero Food Drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at Some Like It Hot, 1900 Converse Ave. The event invites community members to come together and contribute perishable and nonperishable food items to support local families in need, per a news release from Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne. All donations will go to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne.

“By donating, you are not just providing food; you are offering hope and dignity to those in need,” said Stephanie Freeman, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne. “We’re honored to be a recipient of this food drive along with St. Joseph’s Food Pantry. Together, we are making a difference in our community.”

“At St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, we assist a growing number of seniors, families, and the unhoused, too,” pantry director Eva Estorga said. “Through private donations, our food rescue program, food drives, and partners organizations, we are blessed with a caring community that reaches out to everyone who visits the Pantry. Thank you to everyone who will be donating to all the people we serve.”
