Why should I do this?

People perform 108 Sun Salutations in the new year to symbolize a fresh start, letting go of the past and setting intentions for the future.

The practice is also said to have many physical and mental benefits:

  • Inner peace: The practice is said to help develop inner peace and mindfulness.
  • Detoxification: The internal heat generated during the practice is believed to be cleansing and detoxifying.
  • Fitness: The practice can improve physical fitness, posture and weight management. It can also improve respiratory health, circulation and cardiovascular parameters.
  • Mental clarity: The practice can promote relaxation and mental clarity.

The number 108 is sacred in many traditions, including Hinduism. For example, there are 108 Upanishads (Hindu spiritual texts), 108 names for Hindu deities and 108 sacred sites in India. The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is also 108 times their respective diameters.

Following our practice we will create vision boards and enjoy a delicious locally crafted pint of beer.

Creating a vision board in the new year is a great visual way to represent your intentions.

Space is limited to 10.

Cost is $40. Your cost includes your practice, pint of beer and vision board materials; however, if you have specific pictures or words in mind, please bring them. I will also ask that if you have magazines lying around to please bring them.
