CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Stephanie Lam is Cap City News’s new community reporter.
Born and raised in California’s Bay Area, Lam graduated from a local state school with a journalism degree before moving to the U.K. to earn her master’s in international communication.
Upon realizing she would not like to spend her 20s mulling over research papers required from academia students, Lam decided to go back to work for a local news organization, an area she has experience with from undertaking multiple reporting internships in California.
Seeing Cap City News as a good place to help her grow as a young journalist and an individual, Lam made the 1,695-mile move from home and has enjoyed living in the Cowboy State ever since.
“I’m happy to be reporting about the Cheyenne community,” she said. “There is always something interesting to cover and people are generous with their time and enthusiasm for local news.”
Lam started with Cap City News in December, taking over the city and county government beats as well as business, features, and arts and culture.
“Stephanie has done a tremendous job of hitting the ground running in Cheyenne,” Managing Editor Klark Byrd said. “She’s not only reporting on the official business of the city, but she’s met and profiled several local small business owners as she’s working to get to know the city.”
In her free time, Lam enjoys reading, doing various arts and crafts and trying to keep her California plant, Oswald, alive in the Wyoming weather.
