CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Two businesses have received retail liquor licenses after approval from the Cheyenne City Council.
On Monday night, the city’s governing body approved the transfer of retail liquor licenses for Scooter’s Scoreboard LLC and Wyoming Pipe Dreams Inc. The license for Scooter’s Scoreboard Bar only involves a transfer of location. Wyoming Pipe Dreams acquired its license from a prior owner, W.W. Enterprises Inc.
Wyoming Pipe Dreams is now conducting business as the Lamp Lounge bar in south Cheyenne. Jon Coverdale, who has been managing the Crown Bar in Cheyenne since 1997, will also be overseeing business at the Lamp. He believes bar sales will increase by $500,000 under his direction during the first year of operation compared to before.
“When we came in, we saw the books, we knew what needed to be fixed,” Coverdale said. “We believe we have the ability to fix it.”
On Monday night, the Cheyenne business owner answered various inquiries from city councilmembers and discussed his vision on how he intends to revamp the lounge.
Coverdale wants to turn the Lamp Lounge into a package store that provides a bar space and appetizers. The bar portion of the business will not contain a dance floor or resemble a DJ club, the business manager said.
Another of Coverdale’s priorities is fostering a safe environment for staff and patrons. However, he doesn’t believe it necessary to hire an abundance of security personnel.
“If we hire the right staff to keep the right people out, you do good,” Coverdale said. “I don’t believe you need a bunch of security to keep a place safe. You just need to provide a safe environment and allow the bartenders to take care of their customers.”
Staff members who currently work at the bar will be offered an opportunity to return, and new employees will be brought in, too. Coverdale said staff will make minimum wage but earn tips.
“In the bar world, the tips are generally $100–150 a night,” Coverdale said. “It’s not a bad wage.”
Package sales are anticipated to begin within the next few weeks at the time of reporting, Coverdale said. Bar and restaurant services will begin in three to four weeks.
