CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne City Council struck down motions to develop plans to pave roads in the city.
Two unpaved roads in Cheyenne currently don’t have curb, gutter and sidewalks. But at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, the governing body unanimously rejected two resolutions directing city staff to research why the two roads are not being maintained by adjacent property owners.
Councilmember Richard Johnson said it would cost the city $500,000 to pave Birch Place. In addition, if that street were to be paved, residents in that area must first submit a petition to the city’s clerk requesting to create an improvement district. The section of Ridge Road in question cannot be paved because the paving process would result in homes being flooded due to water runoff.
According to Wyoming state statute and the Cheyenne Municipal Code, property owners are responsible for installing and maintaining curb, gutter and sidewalks. The two roads in question — one on Birch Place and the other on Ridge Road — are unpaved and lack curb, gutter and sidewalks. As a result, the roadways are in disrepair, are dangerous to the public and are causing damage to private property, per the resolution documents.
The resolutions can be viewed below.
