CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne City Council has approved a grant awarded to Cheyenne Fire Rescue. In addition, the city has chosen to pay over $5 million for new fire engines.
The $112,651 grant, accepted at the City Council’s Monday night meeting, will assist the department by paying for personnel costs, travel, instructors and associated backfill, according to a supporting document. The grant has no match requirement and will run through Aug. 31, 2026.
On top of the grant, councilmembers have approved a bid from Colorado-based company Front Range Fire Apparatus for three fire apparatuses. Front Range’s offer was $5,023,363.63. The city will pay the Colorado business using money from its Future Ballot Specific Purpose Option Tax Fund. Front Range was the only entity to respond to the bid.
The city has also agreed to an easement plan with Magic City Enterprises Inc. to create a driveway. The company will allow the city access to its property between 1780 and 1800 Westland Road. The city is agreeing to oversee improvements and maintenance to the driveway as part of the agreement. Magic City will contribute $12,700 for the cost of construction. The city will utilize funds from a FTA Federal Grant for the agreement.
Finally, the city’s governing body will use ARPA grants to purchase license plate readers for the Cheyenne Police Department. The city will pay $146,300 to Flock Group Inc. for the readers.
