CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne City Council is eyeing another parcel of land to annex just two weeks after acquiring land on the North Range Business Park, as well as a myriad of county pockets.
On Monday night, the city’s governing body passed an ordinance on second reading to annex land north of Cheyenne Street and west of and adjacent to Ridge Road. The annexation was initiated by the owner so that the 0.13-acre property can connect to city water and sewer services, according to a supporting document.
The city intends to classify the annexed land under the zoning classification MR medium-density residential.
Aside from these annexations, the council wants to change the zoning classifications for the following properties:
- Land located south of Happy Jack Road and west of Bruns Way will be zoned as AG agricultural.
- Land located northeast of the intersection of West Allison Road and Walterscheid Boulevard will receive the zoning classification AG agricultural.
- Land located north of West College Drive, south of West Allison Road and west of Walterscheid Boulevard will be changed from PUD planned unit development to NR-3 neighborhood residential – high density.
The region near West Allison Road and Walterscheid Boulevard has been a hot topic of discussion recently, as the land was intended to be rezoned into AG agricultural and then converted into a temporary work camp. However, the developer announced at a recent Cheyenne Board of Adjustment meeting that it was no longer pursuing its proposed work camp project.
As it stands, the West Allison/Walterscheid land cannot be enforced under city regulations, according to city planner Connor White. The reason for this is because the land is currently zoned under the county and therefore hasn’t had a city zone for around 40 years. Councilmembers chose to pursue the zone change to bring it within the city’s jurisdiction.
The City Council is set to vote on these items on third and final readings at its next meeting Monday, Jan. 6.
