CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne City Council approved a $20.4 million reappropriation of the fiscal year 2025 budget during its Jan. 27 meeting, funding city projects, employee bonuses and public safety improvements.
The reallocation includes $1.6 million for one-time employee bonuses. Full-time employees received $2,000, while part-time staff were awarded $1,000. Additionally, the Cheyenne Police Department will benefit from $150,000 for overtime in its Critical Traffic Control Area program and $50,000 for security services at the Horse Palace off-track betting facility.
The reappropriation directs $3.3 million toward special projects, including $2.07 million for a new gymnastics facility, $439,539 for pumphouse restoration and $300,000 for a new boiler at the Johnson Pool. Infrastructure improvements include $180,652 for sidewalk repairs on Vandehei Avenue and $115,105 for drainage enhancements in Thomas Heights.
The city secured grants totaling over $1.7 million for various public safety and infrastructure upgrades. Highlights include $70,000 for the Regional Emergency Response Team 7 and $30,000 for a technical rescue grant through Homeland Security. Additionally, $838,786 from development impact fees will fund land acquisition for Fire Station #6.
Community recreation projects received significant funding, with $291,000 allocated for a new playground at Optimist Park and $190,000 for ADA-compliant sidewalk upgrades at Lincoln Park. The Fridays on the Plaza program also received a boost with $140,000 reallocated to support its activities.
