CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Laramie County will soon be under a Stage 1 Fire Restriction as conditions for wildfires continue to worsen.
The Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution at its regular meeting Tuesday prohibiting fireworks and restricting other activities that could put the county at risk of a fire outbreak. The restrictions go into effect 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Matthew Butler, the county’s fire warden, recommended implementing the restrictions, per the resolution.
As part of the restrictions, residents cannot discharge fireworks, hold open fires or make outdoor fires on state or private land. The following activities have also been restricted in some way:
- Campfires at residences or campsites must be held within a ring 15 feet away from all flammable materials.
- Trash and refuse fires inside containers with spark arrestors must be 15 feet away from all flammable materials between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.
The following activities will still be allowed:
- Residents may hold charcoal fires inside enclosed grills.
- Residents may use acetylene cutting torches and electric arc welders or engage in metal grinding if done at least 15 feet away from flammable material.
- Residents may use portable stoves, gas lanterns, jellied petroleum, pressurized liquid and a fully enclosed stove and engage in fire branding activities if done at least 15 feet away from flammable material.
Federal, state and local officers involved in fire, emergency or law enforcement tasks and members of rescue or on-duty firefighting groups are exempt from any of the above activities.
