CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Alta Vista Elementary was recognized for its high performance as a Promising Practice Professional Learning Community at the end of the school year.
Alta Vista earned this recognition for building a strong foundation based on the Professional Learning Communities concepts which it has been implementing for nearly two years, according to Laramie County School District 1.
Professional Learning Communities is a teaching method that goes back to the early 1960s but became popular around the 1980s and early 1990s, according to AllthingsPLC, an online website created to provide support and teach people about the method. Some schools such as Alta Vista have been using this method to create a community-driven approach to learning.
To celebrate the accomplishment, Alta Vista hosted a surprise assembly for the staff and elementary students. East High school cheerleaders and drumlines were present at the celebration and helped support their younger peers.
“I am really proud of our staff and our collaborative culture,” Principal Brook Yearsley said. “We work hard for our students.”
