State representative takes aim at Senate District 8

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — State Representative Jared Olsen announced his campaign for State Senate District 8 on March 22. 

“For the past 8 years I have been blessed with the honor to serve the people of Cheyenne in the House of Representatives,” Olsen said. “In my tenure as a Representative, I have been a relentless advocate for economic development, low taxes, a balanced budget, and educational freedom. It is more important than ever for our community to have a strong and experienced voice in the Senate to continue the fight for Laramie County businesses, families and our community.” 

Olsen served in legislative leadership from 2021 to 2022 as the House Majority Whip, the fourth-ranking Republican in the Wyoming House of Representatives. He has served on various committees during his tenure in the House, according to a press release by Olsen.

From 2019 to 2020, Olsen served on the Appropriations Committee, where he dealt firsthand with the state’s budget. In 2020, Olsen was named Chairman of the Select Committee on Blockchain, Financial Technology, and Digital Innovation. In that role, Olsen has been a strong advocate for a diverse and thriving economy.

During 2021–22, Olsen was the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. He is currently the chairman of the House Corporations, Elections, & Political Subdivisions Committee, where he states he is focused on ensuring Wyoming has fair and safe elections.   

“I firmly believe that Wyoming is the greatest place on earth,” Olsen said. “I first ran for office to make sure my children have an even better Wyoming than the one I was fortunate enough to grow up in. If I am elected to represent the people of Senate District 8, I will be a strong advocate for protecting the sacredness of the Wyoming way of life, while working to make Wyoming an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.” 

Olsen is a fourth-generation Wyomingite and says he is committed to protecting a western way of life. He is a 2019 recipient of the Wyoming Business Report 40 under 40 award and the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce’s Business Advocate of the Year Award. In 2018, Olsen was awarded the Bipartisan Achievement Award from the Hazlitt Policy Center.

Olsen is an attorney and small business owner. As an attorney, he runs his own law firm that is dedicated to helping Wyoming families and businesses thrive. Among the many hats that Rep. Olsen wears, he is first and foremost a dedicated husband and father of three, according to the release.
