CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Lee Filer, a former Democrat Party lawmaker running as a Republican, won the primary race for House District 44 on Tuesday, defeating incumbent Rep. Tamara Trujillo. Also running in the race was Republican John B. Romero-Martinez.
Filer earned 313 votes, roughly 54% of the ballots cast. Trujillo received 190 votes and Romero-Martinez tallied 71 votes.
Filer previously served as the representative of House District 12 since 2013. Trujillo had been a member of the House of Representatives since 2023.
No Democrat is challenging for the seat. However, the last day for independents to file is Aug. 26.
All results are unofficial until ratified by the state.
