CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Voters have chosen current Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins to serve in office for another four years.
Clinching 57% of the total votes, Collins has once again come out on top at the ballot box against candidate Rick Coppinger, whom he also faced in the 2020 election.
The following is the final vote count for each candidate, per results from the Laramie County Clerk’s Office:
- Patrick Collins: 12,562
- Rick Coppinger: 9,185
- Write-In Totals: 319
- Total Votes Cast: 22,066
Collins received over 65% of votes in the election four years ago. This year, six candidates competed for the title of mayor in the August primary. Collins and Coppinger overwhelmingly received the highest number of votes, garnering around 82% of the total votes.
Collins’s priorities for the future
Over the years, Collins has strived to make Cheyenne a pillar for economic growth. He prioritizes working with community partners to find ways to incentivize outside businesses to create a stake in Cheyenne. For instance, he recently had talks with Wyoming Horse Racing LLC that led to a donation for new police K-9 units. He has also been closely involved with Cheyenne LEADS in bringing data centers to the area, such as the one announced by Meta in July.
During the June Q&A event, Collins said Cheyenne faces two big issues moving into the future. The first is the city’s water supply. Currently, around two-thirds of Cheyenne’s water supply originates from the Colorado River, he said, noting that the challenge moving forward will be looking for new water resources and using those resources wisely.
Collins believes public safety is the city government’s most important responsibility, according to a Q&A with Cap City News. He said Cheyenne’s economy is doing well, but the city faces a housing shortage that may impede the workforce’s ability to continue growing. Collins stated he is also dedicated to reviewing and amending the city’s UDC code to improve the business climate. He also wants to invest in additional quality-of-life projects.
Collins discussed more about his vision for the future of Cheyenne in his Q&A. He writes about his approach to fostering public wellbeing, improving city infrastructure, keeping the community informed and integrating environmental sustainability in city decision-making.
