CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The excitement continues at the Laramie County Fair today with a series of 4-H and FFA events under the “Raising the Steaks” theme. Today the fair features competitions in horse showmanship and cattle judging.
The barns open at 6 a.m., welcoming participants for a day filled with events. At 8 a.m., the 4-H and FFA horse show kicks off in the Archer Arenas. The show will follow an order starting with English riding, moving on to livestock events and concluding with speed categories. Meanwhile, open class static judging starts at 9 a.m. in the Exhibit Hall.
At 10 a.m., the bucket calf contest will take place in the Show Ring. This event will be followed by youth breeding beef showmanship and show, and the youth feeder calf contest. These events provide young participants the chance to showcase their skills and knowledge about cattle.
The supreme cow contest begins at 1 p.m. in the Show Ring, where participants will present their best cows for evaluation. At 4 p.m., the Western Plains Heifer Jackpot Show will take center stage. This event offers premiums for each class and special awards for champion and reserve. Additionally, the showmanship category will provide an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their handling skills.
Poultry check-in and vet checks will occur between 5 and 7 p.m., ensuring that all entries meet health standards before competition. If you want to cheer for the best of Wednesday’s open dog show, the awards will be presented at 7 p.m.

Champion Awards
Today’s competitions will feature numerous awards, recognizing outstanding achievements in both horse and cattle categories.
For beef competitions, awards will be given to the top 10 overall FFA market beef entries, as well as to champions in various weight categories.
Schedule for Friday, Aug. 2
- 6 a.m.: Barns open
- 8 a.m.: 4-H & FFA horse show (Archer Arenas)
- 9 a.m.: Open class static judging (Exhibit Hall)
- 9 a.m.: Supreme cow record books due to Beef Superintendent TC Barry
- 10 a.m.: Bucket calf contest (Show Ring), followed by youth breeding beef showmanship & show and youth feeder calf contest
- 1 p.m.: Supreme cow contest (Show Ring)
- 4 p.m.: Western Plains Heifer Jackpot Show (Show Ring)
- 5–7 p.m.: Check-in/vet check for poultry

- 11 p.m.: Curfew
