Events in Cheyenne for Friday, Aug. 16: Explore aviation history, dance to EDM or deadlift in a free weightlifting competition

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — With summer still in full swing, daylong and evening events are occurring throughout Cheyenne every weekend. The following is a list of events going on Friday night to check out.

Wyoming Aviation Festival

Where: Cheyenne Regional Airport, 300 E. 8th Ave.

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Come see Nella the AT-6 Texan once flown by Women Airforce Service Pilots, or WASP, FIFI the B-29 Superfortress and the RC-45J Expediter, plus many other vintage aircraft.

Gov. Mark Gordon will also be there for the Wyoming Aviation History Week proclamation ceremony.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these “flying museums” up close and experience their history.

Chub’z Chile 5th Annual Chile Fest

Where: 7017 Solitude Loop

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Join to celebrate Chub’z Fifth Annual Chile Fest. They’re bringing the finest Hatch Green Chiles straight from Hatch, New Mexico!

Pre-orders only for 5 or more bushels: All other orders are first come, first served. There will be medium, hot and x-hot! Bushels cost $45 each.

They will also have their Hatch Red and Green Chile powders for sale, along with pre-packaged roasted chile!

End of Summer Bash & Foam Party

Where: Warren Adventure Park

When: 1 p.m.

Let’s celebrate the end of a great summer with some fun in the sun! Come to our end of the summer foam party!

Cheyenne Fridays on the Plaza feat. The Blues Dogs Show Band

Where: Cheyenne Depot Plaza

When: 6-9 p.m.

The Blues Dogs Show Band is a diverse group of doctors, lawyers, business owners, teachers, and laborers, who have a passion for blues music. The Dogs have been delivering the goods to audiences at clubs, festivals, fundraisers and concerts for over two decades. Honoring musical genres rooted in the blues, the band explodes traditional musical layers with original energy and creativity.  Their set lists are a creative mix of blues, rock, funk, and R&B classics that routinely pull audiences up to their feet, dancing.

The energetic and crowd-pleasing Blues Dogs have shared the stage with such notable artists as Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Wynonna Judd, George Thorogood, Savoy Brown, Fastball, Buddy Whittington & the Atomic Fireballs, Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal, the Glenn Kaiser Band, and David Beegle.

The Blues Dogs are equally at home from small dives to large arenas.  They have been featured three times at the Greeley Blues Jam arena and the Thunder Mountain Amphitheater.  They’ve also been regular favorites at neighborhood events and charity fundraisers.

Friday Night Strongman: Wagon Wheel Deadlift

Where: Nutrition Company of Cheyenne, 1620 E. Pershing Blvd.

When: 6 p.m.

Kick off your weekend with an electrifying display of strength and determination at the Friday Night Strongman Wagon Wheel Deadlift Challenge! This event welcomes participants of all skill levels, from newcomers to seasoned veterans, to compete in a thrilling test of raw power and technique.

Pokémon Trainer Academy

Haunted Frightseeing Tours

Where: Gunslinger Square, 15th Street & Pioneer Avenue

When: 8-9 p.m.

Ghost stories aren’t just for October! Hop on the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley on Fridays and Saturdays this summer to learn about the haunted history of Cheyenne!

Tickets cost $18 for adults and $12 for kids under age 12. Tours are recommended for anyone ages 10 and over. Stories may include subjects such as violence, murder and suicide.

EDM at the Forum Cheyenne

Where: Forum 619, 619 S. Greeley Highway

When: 8 p.m.

County Road DJ & Sound Production presents DJ SKYRO spinning up EDM in the techno, house, and a little dubstep flavor. Cover charge is $10.
