CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The new school semester is now underway for both K–12 and college students. As summer fun comes to a close, weeklong events will start to slow down, but Cheyenne will still have plenty of evening and weekend events as it marched into the autumn season.
The following is a list of evening events happening this weekend in Wyoming’s capital city and wider Laramie County. To view a full list of events going on in Cheyenne, click here to access Cap City News’s online calendar page.

Saturday Sangha
Where: The Hawthorn Tree, 112 E. 17th St.
When: 9–10 a.m.
Join for a meditation and mindfulness practice at The Hawthorn Tree. The sessions will be one hour in length, with 15 minutes of instruction and discussion, followed by a 30-minute meditation and then 15 minutes of reflection and discussion. The approach will employ concepts and practices from a secular Buddhist perspective. No particular religion or spiritual practice is being promoted, although participants are free to have whatever private religious or spiritual experiences they may have.
To be mindful is to be in the present moment as fully as possible, observing the events of our bodies and minds with curiosity, without judgment. This allows us to assess our experiences in an objective fashion, to begin to free ourselves from established patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving that may not be giving us the outcomes we would like to have. Focusing on our breathing, regulating our breathing, are the core skills in mindfulness.
There is no charge for this and no one has to divulge any personal information. One may join in any discussions or sit and observe quietly. No one is asked to make any commitment of any kind.
These sessions are conducted by Randy Basden, MS, LPC. Randy is a licensed mental health professional with over 35 years in the field and has used meditation in his personal life for much of that time. Over the years Randy has incorporated mindfulness and breath meditation in his professional work and in recent years has made an even greater commitment to Buddhist philosophy, psychology and lifestyle. He closely follows developments in neuroscience and applies the concepts to his work.

“A Sometimes Paradise” is a poignant journey into the rugged beauty and challenges of Wyoming ranch life that shaped Mark Miller as a boy and then as a young man. Through countless failures and occasional successes, Mark learned to adapt to this unique rural environment, forging an unbreakable connection with the land. These gatherings are an opportunity for those deeply rooted in Pagan practices, newcomers to the spiritual path and everyone in between to share, learn and grow together.
Virtual Meetup: Understanding the value of accessibility and connection, we also host a virtual meetup on the third Saturday of each month. This online session ensures that no matter where you are, you can be part of our community, engage in meaningful conversations and connect with friends old and new.
Who’s Welcome? Our doors are open to everyone — whether you identify as Pagan, are curious about alternative spiritual paths or simply cherish freedom of thought and belief. Our community is a diverse mix of individuals, united by a desire to explore spirituality in a respectful, inclusive environment.
Diverse Discussions: Our meetings are a space for thought-provoking conversations that respect a wide range of spiritual perspectives. Community and Friendship: Forge deep connections with a welcoming group of individuals who value understanding and mutual respect. Inclusive Environment: Regardless of where you are on your spiritual journey, you’ll find a place with us.
