Cheyenne Happenings (12/6/24): Tree lighting, tamale contest & cookie scavenger hunt

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The following is a list of events going on in Wyoming’s capital city this weekend. This list focuses on curating local events that are free, family friendly and community-based. Some listings may be seasonal and require an entrance fee or ticket. Weekly recurring events in the community are typically not included in this list. Christmas Tree Lighting

Where: F.E. Warren AFB Outdoor Recreation
When: 4 p.m.

Festivities include refreshments, ornament making, music, face painting, balloon twisting, etc. Starts at 4 p.m. Ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by Santa’s arrival for photos.


Arts Cheyenne First Friday Artwalk 

Where: Various locations
When: 5–8 p.m.

Join Arts Cheynne for its annual cookie-related scavenger hunt and raffle, featuring items from our amazing venues!

Here’s how to participate:

  • Pick up a scavenger paper provided at ALL participating venues to track which cookies you’ve tried.
  • Get involved with the raffle by visiting HALF of the venues available during the event. Eat a cookie, mark your paper, and head to the next stop!*
  • HAVE FUN!
  • Leave your marked scavenger paper at your final stop to enter the raffle.

What could you win?

  • Gift cards from Paramount, The Hawthorn Tree and Outcast Vintage
  • Handmade ornament from Clay Paper Scissors
  • Art Journaling Pages from the Art @ the Hynds Collective
  • Framing Certificate from Deselms Fine
  • Art workshop certificate from the Cheyenne Creativity Center

Winners will be chosen based on the number of items available, and will be contacted the following Monday.

  • The Hawthorn Tree: Chocolate peppermint twist tea
  • Cheyenne Civic Center: Frosted sugar cookie

Festival of Trees

Where: 216 W. 17th St.
When: 5:30 p.m.

Join us at The Gallery at The Met for the Magic City Enterprises’ annual Festival of Trees fundraising gala! Our evening will kick off with an amazing dinner followed by a silent auction full of gifts for everyone on your list! The main event is a live auction of donated, decorated Christmas Trees and wreaths!

Needs Inc.’s 1st Annual Tamale Throwdown

Where: The Louise Event Venue, 110 E. 17th St.
When: 6–9 p.m.

Do you think you have the BEST tamales in town? Does your abuela, tía, neighbor, dentist, barber or dog walker claim their tamales can’t be beat?! Well, we want to hear from you!

Needs Inc. is looking to name the Heavyweight Tamale Champion of Laramie County, all in the name of fighting hunger in our community! Join us for a night of libations, fighting hunger and celebrating one of our favorite cultural culinary creations: the tamale!

Hat Bar

Where: Black Tooth Brewery, 520 W. 19th St.
When: 6–8 p.m.

Join Cathy and the Black Tooth crew on Friday to decorate your very own trucker hat or beanie! Tickets are available for $50 and can be purchased in the taproom. This cost includes a hat, up to four decorative patches and two beers. We’ll see you there!! 


Face Vocal Band

Where: The Lincoln, 1615 Central Ave.
When: 7–10 p.m.

Face Vocal Band is an internationally acclaimed all-vocal rock band from Boulder, Colorado, who have been captivating audiences for over a decade with their infectious energy punctuated by an endearing love of performance. “Blending modern popular tunes with complex harmonies, brilliant beat-box rhythms, and superb singing … Face takes their audience on a musical journey and it’s fantastic fun.”

Ho-ho-hold on to your Santa hats! Face Vocal Band is back with their Holiday Show, and this year’s theme is “Joy To The World”! Get ready for a sleigh ride of laughter, music and holiday cheer that’ll make even the Grinch crack a smile. Imagine your favorite holiday tunes, but with a twist — like eggnog with an extra splash of fun! From jingle bells to beatboxing elves, this show has it all. 22nd Annual Renaissance Christmas Festival

Where: 8806 N. Yellowstone Road
When: 7–9 p.m.

An evening of music and merrymaking celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Enjoy music, wassail, a light Renaissance-inspired meal and a dessert. Reservations are required; call or email.
