CASPER, Wyo. – A mandate for masks was approved by state officials on Tuesday, according to reports from the Casper Star-Tribune.

Wyoming Department of Health spokesperson Kim Deti confirmed the report in an email with Oil City News on Tuesday evening.

Several other counties requested the mandate ordinances, which have to be approved by the Wyoming Department of Health.

No specific details on the mandate have been released as of Tuesday evening, including when it will go into effect or what the restrictions entail. Casper-Natrona County Health Department executive director Anna Kinder said by text on Tuesday evening that the mandate had been approved and will be signed on Wednesday, but she had not seen the complete details yet.

On Monday, Sheridan County published its mask mandate request online. The request mirrors those from other counties that have already been approved.

If Sheridan County’s request is approved by the state, masks would be required to be worn by anyone who is not a minor while outside of their own residence, in private businesses, public offices, and in taxis or other transportation shuttles.

Exceptions are for people alone in small offices, seated at a restaurant table placed at least six feet from other tables and with no more than eight people at the table, people who are hearing impaired, have certain medical conditions or disabilities, or do work that would be difficult or dangerous with a face covering.

Sheridan County’s request states that no documentation is required for medical exceptions.

During a press conference last week, Governor Mark Gordon said “we are thinking about every aspect of what we can do” when asked about a possible statewide mandate.

Recently, the Centers from Disease Control published a study that shows up to a 70 percent reduction in COVID-19 transmission between two people of both are masked.

The Wyoming Department of Health provides COVID-19 case, variant, death, testing, hospital and vaccine data online. The department also shares information about how the data can be interpreted. COVID-19 safety recommendations are available from the CDC.
