CASPER, Wyo. — Sheridan will be home to the first annual “Cloud Peak Classic” bodybuilding and deadlift competition this spring.

“The 1st Annual Cloud Peak Classic, named for the tallest peak in the Bighorn Mountains, offers an opportunity for elite athletes to showcase their strength, skills and bonafides in a premiere performance venue,”organizers said in a Wednesday press release. “Known for its scenic beauty, western heritage, and outlaw spirit, Sheridan is the ideal location to host this event.”

The competition will be held at Sheridan’s WYO Theater on Saturday, April 17.

“The Cloud Peak Classic was born out of a desire to offer a high-caliber fitness competition to athletes in the northeastern side of the state,” co-organizer Rachel Staff said in the release. “The only other physique competition in Wyoming is in Cheyenne in the Fall, so I thought, what if we offer a show in Sheridan in the spring?”

“Wyoming athletes would not have to wait a full year to compete in their home state, and it could help promote the sport of bodybuilding and powerlifting to a new community of athletes.”

The competition is open to participants of all ages, genders and experience levels. Prizes will be given to the top five competitors in each class. The top male and female deadlifter will also receive prizes.

“Given everything our community and country has gone through this past year, I want this show to give people an opportunity to focus on a positive goal for themselves, improve their physical health, and celebrate their accomplishments,” Staff said.

The competition will be held on the state of the WYO Theater, giving people a chance to observe. Social distancing and other COVID related health precautions will be in place.

“The WYO features an ample backstage area for pumping up and private makeup rooms for female competitors, while Cloud Peak Classic staff will be available throughout the eve to assist competitors,” the announcement adds. “Expect a first-class, star-studded event from beginning to end.”

Tickets and registration information is available from via the Cloud Peak Classic Facebook page.
