LARAMIE, Wyo. — The University of Wyoming Cowboy football season is right around the corner, and a pair of national publications’ preseason All-Mountain West squads feature numerous Cowboys. The teams set by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele feature 15 different Cowboys.
Athlon Sports released its team, and 15 Cowboys were named to the squad, including eight players on defense, six on offense and one special teamer.
Defensive tackle Jordan Bertagnole, linebacker Shae Suiaunoa and safety Wyett Ekeler were named to the first team defense. Defensive ends DeVonne Harris and Sabastian Harsh and safety Isaac White were named to the second team. Nickel Wrook Brown was named to the third team and Tyrecus Davis on the fourth team.
The offense was highlighted by running back Harrison Waylee, tight end John Michael Gyllenborg, and Nofoafia Tulafono named to the first team offense. Offensive lineman Jack Walsh and Wes King were named to the second team, with offensive lineman Caden Barnett on the fourth team.
Kicker John Hoyland was named All-MW fourth team as a specialist.
Phil Steele also published his teams, with Waylee and Gyllenborg earning spots on the first team offense. On the first team defense from Steele, Bertagnole and Suiaunoa earned spots. Second team honors on offense went to Walsh, with Harsh and Ekeler earning second team honors on defense.
Davis Earned third team defense and Hoyland earned fourth team honors as a specialist.
